The Law of Attraction
âYou attract the things you give a great deal of thought to.â
âFlorence Scovel Shinn, The Secret Door to Success
The Law of Attraction is the big kahuna in the modern metaphysical space. Next to the Law of Karma (page 82), it is the law of the Universe with the highest profile in modern society. The Law of Attraction is much talked about in the wellness industry, as well it should be.
Simply put, the Law of Attraction is the belief that you attract more of what you think about the most, be it positive or negative.
Manifestations (page 17), affirmations (page 40), visualization (page 46), and gratitude (page 51) can all invoke the Law of Attraction.
For example, Florence writes in Your Word Is Your Wand, âWith love usually comes terrific fear. Nearly every woman comes into the world with a mythical woman in the back of her mind who is to rob her of her love.â
Florence speaks of âthe other woman,â and whether she exists or not, insecure partners can manifest her into being by expecting that she exists. Florence says, âSo long as she visualizes interference, it will come.â
If you find yourself jealous when your partner spends time around others you think are attracted to them, then your focus on the prospect of your partner being unfaithful could very well cause them to be unfaithful. You can easily destroy a once-happy and committed relationship through suspicion, mistrust, and jealousy. Negative beliefs and emotions when thinking about your partner could hurt them emotionally. They may not want to be in a relationship with someone who doesnât trust them, who thinks that they would be unfaithful. Consequently, they could leave you and look elsewhere for a partner who does.
On the flip side, if you spend most of your time looking for the good in others, being helpful and generous and accepting there will be bad days but everything will work out in the end, then you attract others to treat you with the same helpful attitude and generosity of spirit as you offer them. By demonstrating generosity and love to others, in turn, you will attract it back to you.
In The Game of Life and How to Play It, Florence states that âstage-fright has hampered many a genius.â We have all either experienced this undeniable truth about stage fright ourselves or witnessed someone else going through it, either to overcome it successfully or fail spectacularly and leave, humiliated and committed never to expose themselves to the experience again.
Whether on the stage or off, fear can prevent you from reaching out and grabbing your dreams with both hands. Instead, fear allows them to slip away.
A life lived in fear is a life that will end filled with regret. Act as if you are not afraid, and soon you wonât be.
Case Study
Act As If
Weâve all heard the sayings âAct as ifâ¦â and âFake it âtil you make itâ. These two phrases are important bedrocks in the Law of Attraction philosophy: you attract more of what you think about.
