On a Country Road

The sun is sinking behind the mountains. Along the ridge, ten or so wind turbines stand, their propellers slowly revolving.

Yusuke and company are dragging their feet along the path.

The lighthouse feels much farther than anticipated, and the whole group’s mood has soured.

Yusuke is twirling a tree branch he picked up along the way.

KAZUHIRO

(Speaking of his backpack)

This is way too heavy… Hey, guys, let’s take a little break…

JUNICHI

Oh, come on! You were the one who said we should come out here.

KAZUHIRO

(Now taking off his pack)

I don’t think I can go on…

MINORU

What’s in there anyway?

Minoru walks closer and opens the backpack.

Inside is a tightly packed assortment of bananas, apples, snack foods, bottled drinks, and so on.

JUNICHI

(Also peering inside)

What’s all this for?

MINORU

You planning to set up shop or something?

Sounds of test shots come from the direction of the fireworks display.

YUSUKE

Hey! Get off your butts, or we’ll miss it!!

The other three boys recoil a bit at Yusuke’s harsh tone.

JUNICHI

Why is he so riled up?
