Please don’t push me away… I won’t be able to survive it a second time.

Hearing Talya’s pain bleeding from those words guts me. I feel like a piece of shit, but it also illuminates my dark tunnel, knowing the anger she once felt for me is beginning to fade. Not wanting the guilt to overrule my decision, I place Talya’s slender hand in mine and tighten my hold as I guide us out of the office and towards the back exit. Then, thinking better of it, I lead us to the main entrance. I need to let the guys know I’m leaving with Talya.

As we reach the bar, I notice most of the damage has been cleaned up, and things have settled down. The band continues to play on stage but has carefully selected their song choices. Customers continue to chat amongst themselves as if nothing just happened. I have to say these fights have been occurring a bit more frequently than I’d like to admit. But I guess that’s what you get for hosting live bands. Word spreads and draws in other crowds from the outskirts of Watermount Falls.

I need to sit down with Kyle and Chris and discuss possibly hiring some security.

I catch sight of Chris and signal him over. “I’m taking Talya home. Drive her truck back to her place.” I look over to Talya, who has yet to say one fucking word, and I’m beginning to think that taking her home might not be the best idea. “Talya, can you give Chris your truck key?” I whisper by her ear, causing her to shiver and finally look up at me.

“Umm… yeah, sure.” She stumbles over her response, then tugs her palm out of mine to search through her small purse, retrieve her key, and hand it over to Chris.

“Talya, you good?” Zander questions as he and William join us at the end of the bar closest to the front entrance.

“I’m fine. Just a scratch.”

Bul-fucking-shit. She was fucking bleeding out a damn storm. Okay, fuck, maybe she wasn’t bleeding that much but still. She shouldn’t have gotten hurt.

As if Talya can sense my inner turmoil, she slips her hand back into mine and squeezes tight, forcing our eyes to connect. After all these years and everything that has happened, she looks at me with so much damn trust it knocks me on my ass.

I have to make things right between us. Living without Talya is no longer an option.
