Chapter 17 – Jessa

Eden was finally sleeping on her own. We all sat in the living room, a movie on low volume. She was curled up on the oversized chaise, a mountain of blankets covering her small form.

“What the hell is going on?” Willow asked softly.

We all shrugged.

“If Anthony de Silva is trying to scoop her up, then we have bigger problems here than just waiting for our men to come home,” she said.

Mags nodded. “Yeah. And we need to coordinate with Turo, Momma, and Papa. We need to get more guards here. Make sure no one is going out and about alone. If Eden really was staying at Mas’ house, then we have to assume that none of our homes are safe.”

“But was it Mas’ house? Or just a safe house? I’m still not really clear on that one,” Tali said. “From what she was saying about the neighborhood, it didn’t sound like Mas’ home. But even if it was a safehouse, I agree we do need to increase our security protection here.”

“Our address isn’t listed in any official databases,” Willow said. “Nik took care of that for us.”

I nodded. “She took care of that for all of us. Unless someone knows where we live, we’re essentially ‘off the grid.’”

Tali shook her head. “I wish it were that easy. If someone with even a tenth of Nik’s skill can hack one of the utility companies, then all of us could be exposed. No, I agree with Mags. We need to get more security guards. Hell, if Willow’s okay with it, have Momma and Papa and Turo come stay here.” She looked at the lady in question. “Is that okay?”

Willow nodded. “I’d love to have everyone here. Especially Momma and Papa. I don’t think I could stand it if either of them got hurt like Papa did a while ago.”

I nodded as well. “That was a horrible wakeup call.”

We all nodded.

“I can find somewhere else to stay,” Ksenia said. “I know you have oodles of room, but if it would be easier to –”

Willow raised a hand. “Stop right there. We have more than enough room. And you stay here, where we can keep you safe.”

Ksenia studied Willow for a long time. “As long as I’m not putting anyone else out, I’ll stay.”

Willow nodded. “Good.”

We all went silent, watched Harry Potter and his friends try to figure out how to beat He Who Shall Not Be Named.

Eden moaned in her sleep. Curled herself into an even smaller ball. “Get out, Massi. Get out of here. They’ll hurt you. Save yourself,” she whispered before she shoved her body against the wall and shivered.

“Eden,” Tali said in a firm voice. “Eden, you’re dreaming.” She didn’t get up, didn’t invade the other woman’s space.

Eden jerked. “What?”

“You’re having a nightmare, babe. We’re just bringing you back to the here and now,” Ksenia said softly.

Eden blinked her bright, clear blue eyes. “Oh.” She licked her lips. “Thank you.” She turned on her other side, facing the wall.
