Heather works weekdays, so we arrange our call at five and I plan to take the seven o’clock flight to New York. I’m waiting at the airport when my phone flashes Heather at ten after five.

“Good evening, Heather. Thanks for being prompt.”

“No problem. Stopped for a coffee in the building lobby before I drive home.”

“I met with Brown today in Fort Lauderdale and having lunch with Alexander tomorrow in New York. What did Britney share with you about her position with Brown?”

Heather sighs. “Probably more than she should. Britney said she was one of several crew school graduates being interviewed by Brown. She was excited when she was selected and eager to start.”

“What did she say about the interview?”

“Brown was very professional. Said he used his yacht to cruise the waterways for business entertainment, and caterers handle arrangements for food and provide servers. Her job was to have the boat ready for client events, and he would provide extra help for cleaning after large gatherings. She was also expected to serve the occasional lunch onboard the yacht.”

“Did she know why she was selected?”

“Brown said she was more mature than the other girls, and he wanted someone who had a professional appearance.” She pauses. “Britney was a couple of years older than most of her classmates, and I’ve always thought she was mature for her age.”

“Was her job as described? Any extra duties?”

“No. She said Brown’s description was accurate, but she didn’t like his wife.”

“Why not?”

“His wife was always inviting her friends to the yacht, was bossy, and expected Britney to make lunch and serve drinks.”

“Is that why she accepted another job?”

“No.” She pauses. “It was the private parties.”

“Private parties?”

“She said fine restaurants catered the business dinners. The servers were professional and guests included men with wives. Britney was impressed with how Brown hosted these events.”

“What about the private parties?”

“Britney was disgusted and called me after Brown’s first private party.”

“What did she say?”

“Brown had Britney sign a nondisclosure agreement, so she wasn’t supposed to tell me.” Heather sighs. “I guess Britney can’t get in trouble now.”

“What happened?”

“The guests were men only. Brown’s wife was wearing a skimpy dress and women in negligees served the drinks and hors d’oeuvres. Britney said Brown’s wife made the arrangements.”

“Why did she think Brown’s wife made those arrangements?”

Heather laughs. “The women were his wife’s lunch guests. That’s when she started looking for another job.”

“I see. Was Britney approached by any of the guests?”

“No. Brown’s wife told the men the yacht’s crew was off-limits. Britney stayed behind the bar area in the galley.”

“Did Britney observe anything illegal? Drugs or anything Brown wanted to hide?”

Heather hesitates. “I asked if she saw any evidence of drugs. She said men would disappear down the steps to the staterooms with a woman, but she never saw anyone taking drugs. She didn’t know if some men had too much to drink or might be high.” Heather laughs, “Britney served the women sparkling water, not champagne. The women were always in control.”

“Anything else?”

“After
