WHEN POLITICIANS CIRCUMVENT THE MEDIA

The media provide Americans with a picture of politicians and their beliefs, although this viewpoint may change depending on the organization’s agenda. Some politicians choose to avoid media bias entirely and reach voters directly. President Roosevelt used the radio to broadcast over 30 “fireside chats”: radio conversations with the American people. In these addresses, he discussed his New Deal programs. In today’s political landscape, most government officials have access to official social media accounts, which they can use to quickly react to or get ahead of the news. Elected officials can also directly reach out to voters through televised addresses, books, and editorials in major news outlets.
