First Rebellion

I stared up at the ceiling. Baron was quiet, but I didn’t need his input to not be haunted by the day. I’d been trying to sleep for hours, but my father’s words rang through my head, needling me.

I understood not everyone liked Julian. Hell, most people couldn’t stand him. I had my own share of issues with him, but the way our dad treated him always got under my skin. It wasn’t like he’d always been the black sheep of our family.

In fact, it had been the opposite. Growing up, Julian had been the big brother, by several seconds, that I always strived to be more like. He was the one who had inherited everything, and I was the spare.

Julian had always defended me when I’d been the one that could never measure up, but I was never able to truly confront my father and repay the favor.

No, I was always the dutiful son, eager to fill out any orders given to me, no matter what they consisted of. When the shift of power happened, I never fought against it, or even questioned it.

I should have confronted him on the phone, but I let it slide. I’d gone home and went to my room, without even trying to argue.

“We should have stayed with Julian,“ Baron huffed.

“I know,“ I agreed. “But Lee will be okay. Julian won’t try anything.”

“That’s not why,“ Baron complained. He sighed. “I wanted to spend more time with her.”

“No.“ Why was he being like this? “I know-”

“You think,“ Baron corrected me. “Did you notice how she reacted to us earlier? She pushed us away.”

If I didn’t know better, I’d think my wolf was pouting over it. Throwing the blankets off the bed, I crawled out and ran a hand through my hair. Everything should be perfect. My room was fit for a prince.

Once Julian had rebelled, I was given the best of everything. My brother had been kicked out, and his room locked, only father had the key.

Not that Julian would ever stay under the same roof with us again anyway.

I walked to the balcony and slid the door open. The crisp night air had a slight chill but I welcomed the cold.

I couldn’t get her eyes out of my head. Obeying my father hadn’t been the only reason I hadn’t tried to stay at Julian’s place.

Lee was still scared of me. Sure, she was hopeful I’d change my mind and accept her, but there was that moment’s hesitation and her desire to create distance between the two of us, and it stung.

No, I wasn’t romantically interested in her, I couldn’t be. Baron was being ridiculous. I loved Alexandra, and she was the only one I needed. Though, I needed to make things up to Lee somehow. I hated being the cause of the fear in her eyes.

What were they doing? Was Julian harassing her? Or was she sleeping by now? After the events of today, I could understand her needing to rest. We
