Ezekiel Elliott pushes away a tackler as he carries the ball in a game against the Washington Redskins in November 2016.

The NFL threatened to fine Ezekiel. He promised to donate the amount of his fine to the Salvation Army. The league backed down, but Ezekiel donated $21,000 to the charity anyway. He tweeted a reminder to fans that “Your $21 feeds a family for three days.” The Salvation Army benefited even more from Ezekiel’s kettle leap. Within 12 hours, it received $182,000 in online donations.

Ezekiel finished the season as the NFL’s top rusher with 1,631 yards. He led the league with 322 carries and placed third with 15 touchdowns. “He certainly handled the opportunities we gave him really well, both as a runner, blocker, and as a receiver,” Cowboys coach Jason Garrett told the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.

Ezekiel was selected as a First-Team All-Pro and was chosen to play in the Pro Bowl. His rookie teammate, quarterback Dak Prescott, was also chosen for the Pro Bowl. Ezekiel and Dak were the first rookie running back and quarterback teammates in NFL history to be selected for the game in the same year.
