Be careful, though, about driving right up to one—they’re on private property.

Midland’s other claim to fame is as the former home of former presidents George Bush and George W. Bush, now a tourist attraction.

To See and Do

CAF Airpower Museum (432-567-3010; www.airpowermuseum.org), 9600 Wright Drive. Open 9–5, Tuesday through Saturday. World War II buffs will enjoy a quick stop here—it’s on the way out of the airport. Exhibits include a fun nose-art gallery and other artifacts of aviation during WWII. Adult, $10; seniors 65 and older and children 13–17, $9; children 6–12, $7; children 5 and under, free.

George W. Bush Childhood Home (432-685-1112; www.bushchildhoodhome.com), 1412 West Ohio Avenue. Open 10–5 Tuesday through Saturday, 2–5 Sunday. This is the home where George W. grew up. His father, former President George H. W. Bush, bought the home with his wife, Barbara, in 1951. The building has been carefully restored; many of the items inside—toys, some furniture, etc.—are from the years when Bush was growing up, but were not his. Adults, $5; seniors, students and military, $3; children 5 and under, free.
