The trail ascends rather steeply for its final 0.3 mile. As it does, it enters a forest of tall evergreen trees and passes through three switchbacks that alleviate the steepness of the route. Without warning, the trail reaches the crest of Catherine Pass. Beyond the ridge lies Lake Catherine and the Brighton ski area.

This chapter’s route ends here at Catherine Pass, and sends hikers back to the car on the trail by which they arrived. However, it is possible to continue hiking down to Catherine Lake, 0.3 mile away—and even farther to Lake Mary and Dog Lake (Chapter 22 of this book). Few people complete this extension, though—doing so would require retracing their steps back to the top of Catherine Ridge. The alternative shuttle car option is rather impractical, as the road distance between the Albion Basin and Brighton Trailheads is nearly 30 very steep and winding miles.
