When this formula is filled down, Excel returns an integer value when the check appears in the bank download and the #N/A error when the check does not appear. This outcome makes it fast and easy to see which checks haven’t yet cleared the bank.

However, we prefer to return the amount of the check rather than its relative position. Let’s try the VLOOKUP function next.
