The implicit voting/polling on the subject came down on the side of invasion; therefore invasion was moral. But then, somehow—nobody knows how, but it must have been a miracle—the light appeared! Mankind (womankind, too!) stepped into the blazing Sun of Progress and, aided by the razor-sharp reasoning of the guillotine, drained the blood from the blackness. On 13 June 1789, territorial incursions were fine and dandy, but one day later, on the 14th, they were not.

This leap of enlightenment must have occurred at some fixed date if there are right and wrong sides of history. Not only that, but right and wrong itself must have changed definition based on these miracles. Let’s consider this carefully.
