Vin D’orange

If you can allow it to brew for nine months without drinking it, vin d’orange makes a perfect Christmas gift.

6 Seville oranges, washed, dried, and quartered

2 bottles white wine or rose wine

1/2 bottle eau de vie or vodka

2 cups sugar

Several whole cloves

1 vanilla bean

Mix all the ingredients in a large glass container and stir. Seal the container and store in a dark cool place (such as a cellar) for three to nine months, checking the mixture and stirring occasionally. Strain and put in sealed bottles. Serve cold.
