Act III, Scene iii

Cinna, the poet and friend to Caesar, has had a dream that he feasted with him. As Cinna is timidly coming out into the street to attend Caesar’s funeral, the infuriated mob, which has decided to destroy the conspirators and their homes, meets him. They mistake Cinna the poet for Cinna the conspirator. Though Cinna tells them that he is Cinna the poet, the mob is in no mood to discriminate and they kill him for bearing the name and furthermore, for his bad verses.

Act IV, Scene i

A conference is held by Antony, Octavius and Lepidus. They draw up a list of persons who will be put to death as conspirators and whose property would be confiscated. Both Lepidus’ brother and Antony’s nephew are condemned. When Lepidus leaves to bring Caesar’s will, Antony speaks in contempt about him, calling him an ass, a person fit for small errands. He also reveals to Octavius that he will use Lepidus for bearing the responsibility of mistakes and that he will not hesitate to tamper with Caesar’s will. Then Antony tells Octavius that Brutus and Cassius are raising armies and so even they (Antony and Octavius) must make preparations for war, gather friends and powerful resources, and try to know the enemy’s secret plans.
