King and crew pulled up to the embassy as the sun was bathing Port-au-Prince in its glow. It was supposed to be a hot one. It didn’t take long for the comical moment of seeing the couple going at it in the truck to melt away. King was desperately hoping he would find his men at the embassy. It was tough going all night without any idea if Juice, O’Connor, and Roberts were okay. They couldn’t risk going by Desir’s apartment to check. There would be men crawling all around that place looking for them at that point.

That brought to mind the other worry about whether or not Riley and the girls were okay. He hated not being able to bring them out of there in the night, but often times what feels like the worst thing, or the hardest thing, to do is still the right decision in the end. That would be item number one for the MSGs stationed at the embassy. He wasn’t sure how many US Marines had been assigned to Haiti, but he hoped it was enough to convoy to Jalousie and bring Riley down with ease.

The four of them checked all around the car. They knew whoever wanted them dead and was responsible for Desir’s disappearance would be watching. The embassy was the logical choice for the first place they’d look. But it was worth risking a fight so King could get some people up to Riley ASAP.

“See anything?” Kyle said.

“No, but they are there,” Sam said.

“Anyone worried?”

King continued his scan. “No. Someone went to the trouble to set us up. Shooting at us here would only make us look innocent.”

“All right,” Kyle said. “That brings me to my next question. Anybody worried about walking into the embassy?”

King turned to face him. “Why would we be?”

“You said you thought they were setting us up. If that’s the case, they would’ve told someone that we did it. If word is out somehow, won’t they be waiting to arrest us when we walk in?”

“Maybe,” Kyle said. “But when all you have to do is call the president or the director of the CIA, I think we’ll be okay.”

“Let’s get inside and find out,” Sam said. “We need a lot to go our way this morning. We need the MSGs to get to Riley, we need to find out where Juice and company are and if they’re all right, and we gotta start really digging into Riley’s theory about the richest man in Haiti being to blame for all of this mess. No easy task, no matter what we find, I assure you.”

“Let’s get after it then.”

They exited the car.

“Any of you tired at all?” Kyle said. “’Cause I’m exhausted.”

“We can maybe get a nap inside if we’re going to be here for a bit,” King said.

King continued to scan the area as they walked to the gate. The embassy was big, a couple of stories high and probably half a block long. It was walled in, not too much going on around it.
