Lace Cookies

For all of us who find ourselves somewhere in the middle—like the tribe of Gershon.

1 cup (240 g) flour

1 cup (240 g) nuts, finely chopped

½ cup (120 mL) corn syrup

½ cup (113 g) butter or margarine

⅔ cup (150 g) brown sugar

Preheat oven to 400ºF (200°C).

Blend flour and nuts. Bring corn syrup, butter or margarine, and sugar to a boil in a saucepan over medium heat, stirring constantly. Remove from heat; gradually stir in flour and nuts. Drop batter by level teaspoonfuls about 3 inches or 7 cm apart onto a lightly greased baking sheet.

Bake only 8–9 cookies at a time. Bake about 5–6 minutes, remove from oven and allow to stand 5 minutes to harden slightly before removing from baking sheet.

Makes 2–3 dozen cookies.

ALTERNATIVES: Dress your table with lacy fabrics, decorate with curtains, decide to make Bible study a part of your meal once a week, and carry some heavy wooden objects around, just to get a feel for all the different levels of spirituality.

QUESTIONS: Why was each tribe assigned a different task? Why was anyone required to carry anything at all? What do you think the various parts of the Tabernacle represented? Do people in your family all have different tasks and chores? Why?
