Front-end team members are typically responsible for welcoming customers, processing transactions (this could be sales if you work at the check-out lane or returns and exchanges if you work at a service desk), restocking the front lanes, and generally keeping the front of the store neat and tidy. By the time customers make their way to you, they have already made their decisions and are ready to check out, so you won’t usually need to worry about being super knowledgeable when it comes to the products. As a cashier, you’ll usually be expected to be on your feet for the length of your shift (usually a minimum of four hours and a maximum of eight hours), and you should have the ability to lift around 50 pounds (23 kilograms). Scan and bag the customer’s items while making some friendly small talk, and you’re golden. Some stores might require you to ask customers to sign up for credit cards or rewards cards, but other than that, you generally won’t be expected to memorize any sales pitches.
