I smirk and type my response.
Me: I think we both know the answer to that.
Blake: Aaaand I guess Iâll see you tonight.
Me: Looking forward to it.

BLAKELY
âWelp,â I say, lifting my hands from my sides. The girls insisted on giving me a once-over before I walk out of the house. Theyâre all lounging in the family room, watching the bachelorette passing out roses on the TV screen. When they see me, Mia mutes the show and checks me out.
âThatâs what youâre wearing?â she asks with a frown.
I look down at my hoodie and jeans. âUh, yes?â
âOn a date?â Kate lifts her brows as if Iâm a crazy person.
I shove my hands into the pouch of my red LAU sweatshirt. âIt isnât a date.â
âBut you guys slept together,â Ash reminds me.
âAnd?â I counter.
âAnd tonight, heâs picking you up and taking you to a Taylor House party as his plus-one,â she continues. âKind of the definition of a date.â
âIt isnât a date,â I argue. âAnd Iâm not his plus-one. Heâs justâ¦driving me so there wonât be too many cars parked in front of his house.â
Ash snorts. âAnd the fact you couldâve caught a ride with Mia and me?â
With a huff, I repeat, âIt isnât a date,â though Iâm not entirely sure who Iâm trying to convince anymore. It feels like a date, which is why I decided to wear the biggest, baggiest hoodie in my closet. When I caught a glimpse of my reflection earlier, I almost died laughing. The thing practically drowns me and almost reaches my knees. It belonged to Colt, but I stole it from him a few months ago, and itâs perfect for tonight. Totally worth it.
âOkay, it isnât a date,â Kate concedes, sharing a quick glance with Mia. âBut let me ask you this. Do you like him?â
âIâm not allowed to like him.â
âWhy not?â
âBecause he doesnât look at me like that despite us having sexâââKate scoffs, but I ignore herâââand because Coach Sanderson put the kabosh on romantic relationships thanks to the first game of the season and how shitty the team played. Therefore, Iâm not allowed to like him. Itâs as simple as that.â
âOneâââMia raises her pointer fingerâââhe most definitely does look at you like that. Weâve all seen it firsthand, so donât even bother denying it. And twoâââshe adds her middle finger into the airâââSanderson doesnât have eyes everywhere, so technicallyâ¦â
Her voice trails off, and Ash pipes up, âOoo, a forbidden romance. Colt and I did that once. Itâs hot.â She winks at me. âThis one time, we were at SeaBirdâââ
Nose wrinkling, I lift my hand and say, âEw, stop. Coltâs my brother, remember?â
Mia laughs and throws a kernel of popcorn at Ash and asks, âDo you trust us?â
âNo?â I answer with a laugh.
âOh, come on,â Ash begs.
Mia stands up from the couch, loops her arm through mine, and drags me back to my bedroom without giving me a chance to argue anymore.
When I follow her without protest, she calls over her shoulder, âSee, ladies? The trick is to not give her a choice.
