For hips: Bodysuits, body slips, half-slips. The stretchy, body-molding Hipslip was Nancy Ganz’s first foray into shapewear territory—and she built an empire on it. It works! It tames tummy bulges, shirt rumples, hip ripples and jiggles. Nancy’s comes with a built-in thong to eliminate dreaded VPL (visible parity lines). Flexees and Smoothie also have excellent versions on the market. Body slips and bodysuits will also slim hips.

For abdomens: Tummy-toner panties. While they won’t give you a washboard cut, they can give you back your flat stomach (if it’s not too far gone). I personally road-tested Nancy’s Belly-buster brief and her Waist Cincher panty, both of which I found comfortable and effective—and I liked the high-cut leg that kept them from looking like panty girdles. Mainstream companies generally cut a little more conservatively—a good choice if you need more coverage. Lots of choices in this area.
