Chapter Eight

By Tuesday morning Boomer already seemed better. He barreled into her as she stepped into the kitchen and tried to dance around her several times as she attempted to wade over to his food dish without falling over. She put a little peanut butter on his pill and let him sniff it. He agreeably devoured it whole, licking the peanut butter from his lips a little uncertainly. When she put the scoop of food into his dish, he immediately gobbled it down in his usual Boomer-like way.

“Looks like you’re feeling better, huh, Boom?” she said, and tousled the fur behind his ears. He was still the dumbest, slobberiest canine in the western hemisphere, but she was growing pretty attached to him, she had to admit.
