CHAPTER FORTY-TWO

Griggs stared at the phone after disconnecting it and returned it to her purse. She skimmed through reports and put them away again. She knew she’d read them on the flight and thought it was better to do that.

It had been nice to see her mom, but being home felt good.

No one had been there, not that she’d keep anything about the case in the house after the last break-in.

She walked into her room, stuffed some clothes into a bag, and her phone buzzed.

“Hey, what’s going on?” Jax asked.

“I just got back,” she said.

“What did our friend in Las Vegas have for us?”

“What I have should prove your innocence. Do you know why the FBI didn’t analyze the video?” she asked.

“I don’t think they had a reason too. Like the rest of the world, they believed what they were shown.”

“I think Decker will get an FBI crew on it. The ballistics aren’t there. I don’t think they will find much in the shell that blew out his head.”

“Neither do I,” Jax said.

“Oh, did I tell you I dropped the flamingo off?” she said.

“How did that go?” he asked.

“Elizabeth was thrilled to get her flamingo. She asked about you, and Sarah talked to me about a few things.”

“Like?” he asked.

“She said that you and Williams worked together.”

“We did. He was my CO for a while. Then I lost my wings,” he said.

“Look, I just got home, and I’m tired. I’ll make sure to have Decker check all of this out.” She told him.

“I appreciate it.”

The call ended. Griggs set the alarm in the house, something she’d forgotten to do, and walked out to her car.

She drove back to the airport, got on the plane, and stared out the window for a few hours of the flight.

When it landed, she drove to her parents.
