Love Evanescent

An anonymous poem, of the early Middle Ages, laments the fleeting nature of love: Tell me, beautiful Venus, what is it you are doing, if you don’t know how to let a lover have a change? All beauty fades, when age decays. Violets wither after the dew. The rose loses its perfume. After the spring, lilies cast off their white glow. I pray you, change all this, and make some restitution to the perennial lover, for he who is always loved always remains in love.

Love for Love

A comedy with an erotic motif, by William Congreve (1670-1729). The hero has a number of illegitimate children. Another character, Tattle, initiates Miss Prue, straight from the country, into the ways of society, and Miss Prue proves a quick, apt, and willing pupil. In addition, there is a prurient scene involving voyeurism.
