“This is worse,” Ramsey determined with a slight growl to his tone. “Somehow this is worse.”

“You are so cranky.” I bopped him on the nose as he let out a dangerous rumble. “Lighten up, it's not even eleven yet.” But man, were people fucking wasted.

“You are wearing lingerie,” he snarled as if I was the crazy one.

“You’re being dramatic,” I smirked. He wasn’t. I was wearing very much exactly that.

As I mentioned, I loved lingerie, and my collection had only grown more colorful the longer I had been with these guys. Right after returning from the Horde, my package delivery had come from one of my favorite shops out of Milan, and now I had literally fifty or so different options. Every color of the damn rainbow.

Plus, my new outfit wasn’t that bad. Half the girls here were wearing less clothes than I was now, so I was hardly worried.

Deciding I was going to go as a Victoria’s Secret angel, I had slipped away to my room, seeking vengeance for my amazing pirate costume that had been destroyed at the hands of a knife-wielding metal mage. My entire body was still rolling with heat after his intense use of it, and I couldn’t help but feel like I’d won our bet a bit. Like, okay, I’d begged, but he’d slammed me up against a tree after cutting me out of my costume so he could fuck me faster? Chicken or egg, am I right?

Ramsey grasped my jaw and motioned to my outfit. It was a pair of bright purple stilettos and a tiny silk slip dress that was a black, dipping to my lower back with high slits on either side of my hips. I unfortunately didn’t have the wings to go with it, but I had sprinkled some glitter on me for good effect.

Alright, so I was essentially wearing heels and a nightgown. Oh well.

“Tell that to Cassian,” I pointed out as the smug bastard smirked at me from the couch. “He ruined my pirate costume.”

Ramsey grunted, sitting down as if giving up. Well, I thought that was the case, until he pulled me down on top of his lap. My eyes widened as he offered me a ‘deal with it’ look. I couldn’t help but smile. Looking around, I realized that Fox, Rowan, and Everett were suspiciously absent. Cassian, as if realizing my train of thought, chuckled and poured another drink for himself and Nour.

“River,” I caught his attention from where he was looking outside in thought. August was standing out there, his magic floating through the space, and I could tell the men were keeping tabs on everything tonight. Probably because of what John’s mom had warned us about. I nearly shook my head at the thought of her. How odd.

I had to appreciate that she would go out of her way to even offer me that vague warning. It made me want to destroy the patriarchal restraints on the coven all the more. I promised myself if I ever took over after killing my dad, I would ban that bullshit.
