ABSTRACT
Funding in healthcare is under stress from many sources. Finding alternative funding sources is key to survival for simulation programs globally. This chapter provides information about how grant funding can support simulation, where to look for grant funding, and how to write a competitive application. A compelling grant should address an important problem that is in line with the funding agencyâs priorities and be clearly written with a concise problem statement, sound methodology, and a reasonable budget. Common pitfalls are discussed.
CASE EXAMPLE
You are an experienced simulation educator known for your creative ideas for innovative approaches to simulation-based education. The administrator of your simulation program at the academic medical center approached you this morning to inform you that she would like for you to take the lead role in writing a grant to support your simulation work. You are pleased to be asked and excited by the opportunity, but are not sure what grant to apply for nor how to write a compelling grant application. Complicating the matter, you are not exactly sure for what to ask. Who can help you get started? Where can you find further information?
