Micah opened his door to Lexi. The seductive smile on her face wove its way into his thoughts, which quickly became X-rated. “Dinner’s about ready.”

“Nothing like delicious food to start the evening.” She put her ever-present art tote on the sofa.

Lexi simmered with barely concealed excitement, her eyes sparkling, and the intriguing smile drawing him in.

“You said you were bringing something?”

“Yes, for after we eat. We have plenty of time.”

She seemed determined to make him wait for the mysterious “things”.

They linked hands and went to the kitchen where she took a place on the counter stool at the island, while he checked the oven.

“What’s on the menu?”

“Chicken enchiladas. It’s a favorite of my family,” he said. “There’s a green salad in the fridge.” He opened a drawer and got two oven mitts for when the meal was ready.

“I’ll get it.” She hopped down, retrieved the bowl, and took it to the table, which already had plates and silverware. A bottle of Chardonnay and two wine glasses completed the setting.

After finishing their salads, Micah pulled the enchilada pan from the oven and grabbed a serving spoon from the drawer. Taking it to the table, he put it on a hot pad. “Allow me.”

Lexi handed him her plate and he scooped out a portion for her.

She speared a forkful of the dish and inhaled. “It smells wonderful.” She blew on it and took a bite. “I’m going to have to keep you around, Micah. This is better than any restaurant food.”

A lottery win wouldn’t have made him happier. “That’s my plan.” As much as Lexi had talked about living in the present, he wanted some assurance about their future. He might not believe in forever, but he sure as hell didn’t want them to end soon.

“Thank you for dinner.” Lexi sat beside Micah on the sofa, with her legs curled under her.

“You’re welcome.” Thank god his mom had taught him to cook. “I’m glad you liked it.”

“How have you felt about our exploring of the senses to open your mind to the art world’s possibilities?”

“I’m more aware of the sights and sounds around me, and I wasn’t before,” said Micah. “I didn’t pay much attention other than where I was going or what I was doing.”

“We haven’t practiced your sense of touch.”

“For my part, I think we’ve touched plenty.” He waved his hand when she started to say something. “I’m joking.”

“Come with me to the bedroom.” She picked up her bag on the way, threw it on the king-size bed and patted the coverlet.

“I like the way this is going.”

“It’s not what you think. You trust me, don’t you?” She opened the cloth bag and laid out paint brushes, an old-fashion quill pen, and a silk scarf.

“I trust you, but these items seem a little kinky,” he said.

She grinned. “Do you want a safe word?”

“Do I need a safe word?” He loved her carefree sense of humor. He’d laughed more in the past two and a half months than the whole year before.
