“I’m going to be wanting that back,” Ted huffed. “It was given to me by my father.”

Kowalski sneered down at him. “You can file a claim with lost and found,” he drawled. “They’ll get back to you in three to five weeks. Besides, bucko, you got bigger problems.”

“Oh yeah?” Ted hissed a pained laugh. “And what would that be, little man?”

“Us,” Kowalski snarled.

The man burst into peals of laughter, confusing the soldiers.

“No, I don’t think so,” he finally gasped. “If you were my problem, you wouldn’t have aimed for my knee, oh no.” He pounded his index finger into his forehead. “You would have put one right here. And I know you are a good enough shot to deliver that if you want to.” He continued to laugh, occasionally groaning in pain and holding his leg.
