This shot of South Sister shows why the name Sisters Mirror Lake is a tad misleading.
Making your way back now, when you get to the junction in the middle of Wickiup Plain, turn left, following the DEVILS LAKE sign. Pass just south of Le Conte Crater (which you can scramble up for an interesting view) and, 1 mile later, turn right to follow a sign for Elk Lake. This is the Elk–Devils Trail, which you stick with for 3.1 miles—staying straight at 0.4 mile and turning right at 1.5 miles—all the way back to the original junction with Mirror Lakes Trail, at which point your car is 0.5 mile to your left.
For a longer and even more amazing loop, consider connecting this hike with the Mink Lake Basin trip to the south (see previous hike), the Obsidian Loop (see next hike), or the Lava Camp Lake to Collier Glacier View trip (Hike 15) to the north. Altogether these four hikes cover 39.9 miles of the PCT through this fantastic wilderness.
