They got the Toyota started, and then Seth followed Brent and the loaner car back to the RV park. Travis peeled off shortly before they got there, then pulled in behind them by the time Seth had finished explaining the damage to Mrs. Kelly and offering to help pay for a new window. Travis held two steaming pizza boxes, and Seth realized he hadn’t eaten since breakfast. He wasn’t hungry and didn’t know if he could keep anything down from worry, but he figured passing out didn’t do anyone any good.

Brent and Travis followed Seth into the RV. He offered drinks; Travis took a Coke while Brent and Seth opted for beer. While they ate, Seth filled them in on more of the details, as well as the importance of finding the anchor and amulet.

“I can go out to the murder swamp and see if the ghosts can tell me more than they were able to tell you,” Travis said when Seth finished his story. “The way they communicate with me is different. It takes less energy for them to show themselves because I have a natural ability to see and hear them. Since they don’t have to crank up the power just to be noticed, they can use it to talk to me—and I can understand them. Considering that you’re not a medium, it’s pretty impressive that you got what you did from ghosts that old. They usually fade too far to do much besides scare people.”

“These ghosts were pissed,” Seth said, forcing himself to swallow a bite of pizza. It smelled good, and from the way Brent and Travis dug in, it must have tasted great. But worry turned it into ash in his mouth.

“If Alex didn’t send you everything he found before he took off with Brandon, I’ll make sure either he or I get it to you in the morning,” Brent promised.

“Thank you,” Seth replied, sincerely grateful for the help. Yesterday, he would have refused assistance, wary of working with any more outsiders. Now, he considered their awkward meeting at Dead Man’s Hollow to be a lucky break.

“I’ve got a number of…associates…with a variety of psychic gifts who help me out when they sense something,” Travis said. “I won’t share details—won’t need to. If they have something for me, they’ll already know. I can’t guarantee anything, but we’ve found that by staying in touch and pooling our insights, we come out ahead.”

“I might be able to get some dirt—or at least details—on Robeson and his previous persona, Bennington,” Brent mused. “Let me do a little digging.”

By the time the pizza was finished, they had covered everything Seth could think of to say about the witch-disciple that hadn’t already been said. Brent and Travis promised to be back in touch first thing in the morning. Seth saw them out and watched the Crown Vic pull out of the driveway.

The RV was far too silent. Funny that Seth had lived for two years by himself and never minded.
