CHAPTER TWENTY-SIX
HEDDA
Hedda's breathing started to pick up as the man walked towards her. Shit. This wasn't good.
"Please," she begged as she pushed herself up against the wall.
There was no where for her to go. He was blocking her way towards the bathroom and the entrance.
Her lungs started to constrict as she continued to breathe heavier. Everything felt like it was going in slow motion.
"Please," she begged again as the man took another step towards her.
She pushed herself further against the wall. There was no escape and she didn't know who this man was.
"You're okay," the man whispered but it sounded so far away. Almost like she was under water and going deeper and deeper.
The voice was familiar, but her brain didn't register it.
"Youâre safe," the man said. "It's Papa."
"No," she mumbled.
It couldn't be Papa. It sounded so much like his voice, but at the same time, there was a hint of Richard's voice mixed in.
"Papa is here," he gently said. "He isn't going anywhere. He's going to keep you safe."
Tears filled her eyes as she looked at him. It was Papa but his voice didn't fully sound like his.
"I'm going to take another step closer," he said.
She shook her head. She didn't want him to come any closer than he already was.
Before either one of them could do anything, another man walked into the room.
Hedda screamed and pushed herself against the wall. The light in the hallway was making it difficult for her to see who it was.
"Daddy is here," the man said. "You're safe."
She shook her head and kept her eyes trained on him as he got closer. He walked with confidence, like he knew what he was doing or about to do.
His hand moved and her eyes zeroed in on what he was holding.
Rope.
Shit.
Her eyes went wide and she let out a whimper when he took another step towards her.
"No," she said again. "Please no."
"You're okay," Daddy said. "Everything is going to be alright. Papa and Daddy are going to help you."
She shook her head again and pushed herself against the wall, trying to make herself smaller.
Both of them took a step towards her. Her head whipped back and forth, trying to find an exit route but there was nothing. Both of them were blocking her only path to the bathroom and the hallway.
"No," she said.
"You're okay," Papa said. "Daddy is going to help you calm down."
Daddy took a step closer to her.
"You're okay," he gently said. "These ropes will help you calm down."
She shook her head and whimpered. "No."
"If you need to say your safeword, you can," Papa said. "It's red. If we hear that, we'll stop."
"But we think this will help you calm down. it has in the past."
She shook her head again as Daddy got closer.
"You're okay," he whispered again.
She watched him as he sat down on the ground right in front of her. He gently grabbed her hand and let her touch the rope.
"See," Daddy said. "Nice and soft."
Her eyes were still trained on him as he pulled back and started to unravel the rope right in front of her.
