Two days pass in a blur, and Iâm still reeling from the information Reina had given me.
It didnât change the way I thought about her. I could only imagine I would have done something drastic, too, if I found out my father was sleeping with my best friend. That is, if I knew what it was like to even have a father, for that matter.
School is just as bad as always. I donât know what happened that set Margaret off, but sheâs even worse than Kallista anymore.
That is, until I find out exactly what sin Iâd committed in her eyes.
Itâs lunch break on Wednesday, and Iâm hanging out in the corner of the cafeteria. Reina has just grabbed her food and sheâs on her way over to the table to hang out with me when suddenly, thereâs snickers from all around the room.
The whispers that rush through the crowded lunch hall sweep by me like a gust of wind, and it doesnât take me long to realize Iâm the topic of conversation. Again.
But, Iâm not sure what Iâve done this time to make everyone turn on me at once.
That is, until Reina drops next to me, her face grim.
âWhat the fuck is wrong with everyone?â I ask, looking around the room. I make eye contact with a few students, but they snicker and turn away, just leaving me wondering even more whatâs happening.
âLook at your phone,â she says.
âIt hasnât gone off,â I pull it out of my bag, but she doesnât care.
âTrust me, youâll see,â she tells me.
Confused, I look at my notifications. I have the usual messages from my social media, but then, I see whatâs going on, and my heart sinks.
Someoneâs posted a video, tagging me and Phoenix both â and I donât even need to open it to see what it is.
Clearly, someone caught the two of us fucking at the Halloween party over the weekend â and they were more than happy to whip out their phone and film it taking place, too.
âWhat the fuck!â I exclaim as I look back up at Reina.
Although she didnât explicitly know what was going on between me and Phoenix, Iâm not getting the impression sheâs surprised. In fact, she seems to be just as horrified that it wound up online as I am.
âWhat the fuck is right,â she says, her tone low. âJust what the fuck.â
âWho did this?â I ask.
âDoes it matter?â she shrugs. âItâs not like you can really come back from that no matter who it was. Fuck, was it Phoenix? Seems like the sort of shit heâd pull.â
âNo,â I say, though I donât recognize username of the poster. âI donât think he wanted news to get out about the two of us any more than I did. Fuck! Itâs been shared so many fucking times, I donât think Iâd even be able to track down who the person was who put it up anyway.â
âDoes it matter?â Reina asks again. âThe secrets out, gameâs up. Where is the shithead anyway?â
She looks around for her cousin, and I instinctively do the same.
