Chapter Seven

Cross, Priest, and Spike rode through the night. It had been exhausting, but they finally reached Hanging Grove. Home sweet home.

Dana had dozed off on the back of Cross’s Harley, snuggled against him and clinging tightly during the ride. He could hear her soft snores as they rolled closer to the MC clubhouse, which was on the outskirts of town.

As they arrived at their familiar haunt, Cross gave Dana a gentle shake to wake her up. He debated if he should just leave her be and carry her the rest of the way, but Cross didn’t want Dana to wake up in some strange room and panic.

“Dana, wake up. We’re here,” he said.

Despite the odds stacked against them, they all made it back in one piece. Cross didn’t need to bury any of his brothers. He kept his promise to Breaker and more importantly, Dana was with him now. Panther and the rest of the Crows wouldn’t be able to touch her in Death Seekers MC territory.

“Here where?” Dana asked.

She looked disoriented as Cross helped her down from the Harley. Her gaze swept over the surroundings, and she took a moment to absorb the scene. The crowded parking lot, the rumbling motorcycles, and the noisy clubhouse gradually must’ve registered in her mind.

Her eyes widened slightly, a hint of fear flickering across them. She seemed overwhelmed by the new environment. Cross reached for her fingers, pleased she didn’t bat them away.

“Hey,” he said gently, trying to make his voice reassuring. “You’re safe here. You and your father are under my protection.”

“My dad,” Dana said. She blinked. “I should probably have a look at his gunshot wound.”

Cross gently rested a hand on her shoulder.

“We have an in-house doctor. Priest already called him,” he told her.

Dana insisted on accompanying her father, and Cross couldn’t fault her for wanting to be by his side. They entered the clubhouse. Most of the crews had returned from their respective jobs, making it a full house tonight.

Cross and Spike led Dana and her father to a smaller room at the back of the clubhouse, which served as Warlock’s clinic. He didn’t think it was necessary to tell Dana that Warlock had lost his medical license five years ago due to a drinking problem. Warlock always came through for them, patching up and sewing MC members and those under their protection without much complaint. Warlock gave Cross and Priest a curt nod of acknowledgment as they entered the room.

“Put him on the table,” Warlock instructed, his tone businesslike. Good, Cross thought. Warlock appears sober tonight.

Spike excused himself from the room while Warlock carefully tended to Dana’s father. It was a gruesome task, but Warlock was efficient.

Once the procedure was complete, Warlock administered a sedative to Jeremy, allowing him to drift into much-needed rest. Jeremy immediately fell asleep.

“I’ll take him to one of our guest rooms,” Warlock offered.

“Thank you, Warlock,” she told him gratefully.

As Warlock began to prepare Jeremy for the move, Cross decided to speak up.

“You probably want to stay with him,” he suggested.
