What Type of Book?

You can use any book; there is no need to invest in expensive materials. I work with clients using discarded textbooks, old comic books, simple plain sketchbooks or art journals. Textbooks are great as they provide a layer of text that can be incorporated into mixed-media work. Some clients have a specific book that they are ready to use for a visual journal. I have also worked with discarded guest or visitor books and empty old-fashioned photo albums. The choice is the client’s, and there are as many personal preferences as there are people. Any book can be used, because by covering pages with gesso or white acrylic paint, or even gluing a few pages together (when the pages are really thin), we can create a solid ground to work on with many different art media.
