CHAPTER SIX

– EZRA –

“I didn’t know what to expect, brother. But I’m damn jealous. She’s defiant, strong, fucking gorgeous, and has a good head on her shoulders. Not to mention the fact that she’s a president. You did more than good,” Atticus tells me.

His family took me in when I was sixteen and this man has been more than a brother in every sense of the word. Maybe not by blood but blood doesn’t make family; loyalty and unconditional support does.

It’s for this reason I tell him the truth. “Don’t have to tell me. One encounter and I was on my bike chasing her home, ready to settle.”

“I always knew you were a smart man.” He smacks me on the back and shoots me a grin but it fades all too soon. “The way she’s handling herself and her girls the same way a prez with dick and balls would is fucking admirable. Hell, anyone in her situation could have faltered but she’s as sharp as a whistle. And she’s fucking right Jorie might be the one who took out her father and the whole MC along with it.”

“Same kind of IED.” I nod. “Hudsyn has been trying to solve who the killer is for months; she knows every detail and is standing in the middle of everything. She sees things clear and was right to ask you to turn Jorie inside out. And now I’m thinking the proof I obtained about her father and brother driving back into the state the day it happened might have been to stop Jorie.”

Atticus bobs his head. “Makes sense. Everything does when you think about it. I mean, who on earth can catch a whole MC off guard? Only an insider can, one who stays unnoticed. A fucking daughter no one gives a second glance. Even if her father was expelled days before, she would still be friends with their own fucking daughters. Fuck.”

“Yeah, the level of betrayal is damn deep.” I release a frustrated sigh and keep my eyes on Hudsyn who is going through a pile of papers with Yuma.

“It’s also why we have to map out who she’s close to. I know Hudsyn gave me the task to handle Jorie but this also entails talking to every single member of Valorous Sally. We need to make sure she’s either working alone, for her father, maybe her brother is in on it as well, could even be all of them working together or–”

“We worked on more cases I can count together, Atticus,” I cut him off. “There’s no need for you to explain. But I know why you’re mentioning it. You want Hudsyn to be present during the interrogation. Because you are going to interrogate every sister in this sisterhood like you would do if it were brothers in a brotherhood.”

The man doesn’t even flinch. “Damn right I will. But it requires her help and that’s where you come in.”

“Don’t use me as a tool to get to my old lady,” I growl.
