As Shaffer states,
The creators [of such bots] are not politically motivated. They're simply trying to get ad revenue by tricking people into clicking on their link. But because most click-bait content is also often the most polarizing content, these bots end up amplifying polarizing content that is sometimes itself misinformation or disinformation. This subtly contributes to the increased polarization in our culture, and when it overlaps with another influence operation, can end up amplifying the effects of that influence operation.â
