The observation of a very condensed space of human face shapes is not surprising. A shape, as a valid face shape of a real human face (here we refer to upright faces), has to conform to a number of constraint s. For example, there should be two eyes residing nearly-symmetrically on the left and right parts of the face, and there should be one mouth below the only one nose on the face, etc. As a result, a random point in S G (i.e. on the unit hypersphere) but outside the subspace of valid human face shapes will correspond to a shape that will not be perceived as a real human face.
