Ingredients

4 tablespoons self-rising flour

4 tablespoons cocoa powder

1 cup sugar

½ teaspoon salt

2½ cups evaporated milk (or whole milk)

1 teaspoon vanilla

2 tablespoons butter

Instructions

Sift together flour, cocoa powder, sugar, and salt in a small bowl. Using a spoon, crush any remaining lumps of cocoa into the mixture.

In a cast-iron or heavy skillet, bring milk to a simmer over medium heat.

Using a whisk, slowly add dry ingredients, stirring well to avoid lumps.

Reduce heat to medium-low and stir until gravy thickens and bubbles. Add more milk if it seems too thick. It should be the consistency of milk gravy.

Remove from heat. Stir in vanilla and butter.

Serve over biscuits.
