Chapter Eight
Blake turned and pushed her behind him when two men came through around the trees. They both stopped when they saw him.
âBlake, fuck, is that really you?â one of the men asked.
Blake nodded. âHello, Hunter and Rafe.â
âWhat the fuck is going on?â Hunter asked. âIâm guessing thatâs the woman weâve been looking for the last few days.â
Blake nodded. âYes. Sheâs my mate.â
Both men looked surprised for a moment.
âI thought I caught your scent on her. Damn, man, congratulations,â Hunter said and smiled. âNow, tell me why you havenât gotten word to us that she was okay? Her friends are frantic with worry. You might like to know one of her friends, Brenna, is the Alphaâs mate.â
She grasped his hand when he reached back.
âI couldnât let her go yet when Iâd just found her.â
âYou donât have to let her go, man. All you have to do is let her talk to her friends.â
He relaxed a bit. âYes, I know that would have been the smart thing to do, but you must remember, Iâve been out here for six years and was already half-feral. It was my instinct to hide her away from people.â
âI get that,â Hunter said. âHow about I loan you my phone, and she can call them and talk? Then you guys can take whatever time you need to figure out what you want to do. I donât care if you stay where you live now or come to town, friend. Just let her talk to them.â
âIâd appreciate it. Iâll have the phone back to you in a few days.â
âTake it for however long you need it.â Hunter turned to Rafe. âLetâs head back and call everyone in. Theyâll be happy that sheâs well.â
Rafe nodded. âYes. A lot of people will be relieved.â
âIâd hug you, but I know you probably donât want us too close to your mate.â
Blake relaxed some more. âYouâre right about that. Iâm hoping the jealousy will calm down after a while.â
âFrom what I understand, itâs like the mating heat. You learn to live with it.â
Blake nodded. âOkay. Iâll talk to you soon.â
Both men walked off before he turned and looked down at her. Pain poked his heart at the misery and tears on her face.
âIâm so sorry, Blake.â
He cupped her cheeks. âEverything will be okay, mate. Letâs get back home.â
She sniffed and nodded before he bent and picked her up in his arms.
âI can walk,â she said.
âI may not let you out of my arms for a while. Iâve never been so scared in my life.â
She stuck her face against his neck and held onto him. He just wanted to get her back home as quickly as possible because the urge to mate was overwhelming, but he didnât want to take her out where others could see her.
They returned within ten minutes, and he walked them down the cave to their living area and into their bedroom. He dropped the phone Hunter had given him, pulled off her clothes, and put her on her hands and knees.
