Chapter Thirteen
COLE
It was hard not to get caught up in the wake of Jasperâs wild charm.
We made it to Cheese The Day, but not without a few hasty stops under streetlights and in the alleys between shops. As much as I wanted to let our bodies make up for all the lost time, I couldnât let my newfound time with Jasper be taken over by mindless sex.
I was as drawn to him now as I was growing up together, but in the silence between kisses, in his slow, heavy footfalls, in the way he tried and failed to hide his tension behind bright smiles and wild displays of affection, I could feel Jasper struggle with us, too.
We were friends again as much as we remained strangers to each other, and no amount of reminiscing over a slice of the best pizza in Ontario could change that. I wasnât just hungry for the Jasper Fox Iâd spent my teen years fantasizing about.
I wanted the new Jasper. I wanted to dive into his mind, unravel the last fifteen years of his life, fill in the gaps and find out who heâd become without me and how I could fit into that puzzle like Iâd always belonged. Even watching him walk toward our table from the bathroom made my head spin.
Jasper walked with a slouch, his shoulders too broad for any shirt to fit him without being seconds from becoming torn shreds of fabric. His shoulders were crooked, and I hid a smile behind my glass of water, remembering how heâd always worn his too-heavy backpack over one shoulder in school.
He was a bear of a man like heâd been a bear of a boy. Strong, but soft in all the right ways. My cock stirred in my pants as I recalled the way we explored each other and studied all our new peaks and valleys, every hair and curve a story we werenât always in on.
I breathed a swear into my glass when Jasper caught my eye and transformed himself. His bright gaze demanded my attention, ordering me to watch the way he straightened his back, stretched his arms, added a swagger to his gait that made me grind my straw between my teeth with anticipation.
I was transfixed, hypnotized by the frustrating way he swiveled his hips, but even more by the way he trained his eyes on me like I was the only man in the room, in the world, allowed to take him in the way he showed himself off to me like that.
âTease,â I said as he slid into the booth across from me. âSince when are you that much of a show-off?â
âIâm offended you could forget my legendary performance as Lysander in A Midsummer Night's Dream,â he said, shaking his head in mock disappointment. âYou know I only took grade nine drama because you wouldnât shut up about how into that play you were.â
âI didnât forget,â I said, flicking a bead of condensation off my glass and onto his shirt.
