Silver

Keeping hold of the rage coursing through my body was one of the hardest things I've ever done before.

The five of us had met by chance at a rally. We'd gotten to drinking and talking and learned that we all had similar interests. Becoming a club and pack was as easy as breathing. We had started as a construction crew until we happened upon something we shouldn't have. One of Saint's cousins had something precious stolen and needed it back. The pack had a job on a site where we had access to some building plans, and we'd used our connections to 'procure' the missing item.

One thing led to another; someone else had contacted us for another job before we knew it. We'd met The Tigress along the line and worked exclusively with or for her. We only ever stole stuff that was stolen, to begin with, and we could count on her to get us the perfect jobs that matched all our requirements.

And in all that time, I'd never had a problem with control. No matter what we were pulled into, nothing ever got to me. It was the reason I was the Prez and Alpha of the pack.

But Honey's broken voice telling us what her mother had planned for her ripped all that careful control away from me.

Someone out there, someone with power, had stolen our precious girl from her parents and raised her—not very well, I might add—for the slaughter. My brain couldn't make sense of the situation, but for the moment, I only needed to focus on holding my girl, protecting her, and caring for her. Tomorrow, we could work on what we need to do next.

Her soft whimpers died down, and after a long time, her breathing evened out. With care, I shifted and rested her head on the pillow before tucking her in.

"She needs something to cuddle," I said quietly, thinking of all the stuffed toys we had in the sleeper van. Shade's chuckle surprised me enough to make me look at him with a frown.

"That's exactly what I told her a few hours ago." He shrugged.

"What else do you know?" I questioned as I stepped away from the bed. We both stayed just inside the door, as far from the bed as possible, while still staying in the room. Neither of us was willing to leave her alone so soon after her panic attack.

"I have her parents' details and the name of the woman who raised her. What I don't have is why she'd do this. One Omega? What is her end game?" Shade shook his head before running his hands through his messy hair. "Omega's go for a fair price on the black market, but not enough to warrant the risk someone in her position would be taking to do it."

I nodded along with him. It didn't make sense. "Do you know anyone you could ask to look into it?"

"I don't. But T is already looking into it. She's very invested."
