CHAPTER EIGHT

Fourth of July week had gone by quickly, and funny enough, most of the visiting family was still there a day later than expected. At least the retired portion of the family who had driven in and had more flexibility was.

Judy and Bob discussed their next camping trip to Assateague Island during breakfast at the noisy local diner with their family while they were all squished into an extra-large wraparound booth.

“So, you’re going on a camping trip in a couple days?” Aunt Linda asked, taking a bite of her omelet.

Bob nodded and took a sip of his hot coffee. “Well, where we are going is Assateague Island in Maryland. It has camping spots right on the beach. You can wake up in the morning and see the ocean and the wild horses walking on the beach. There’re great little walking trails and nearby is Ocean City, which has lots of great restaurants and things to do for a change of scenery if needed. It sounds dreamy, doesn’t it?”

Uncle Mike closed his eyes and took a sip of his coffee. “I’ll say. Linda and I used to take the kids camping all the time when they were little. I miss it so. I’m not sure when we’ll get to do it again.”

Aunt Carol bit her lip in thought. “Well, would you two want company on your camping trip? I kind of want to go. Jack, wouldn’t you like to go camping?”

Uncle Jack nodded. “Well, I’ve never camped on a beach. It does sound interesting.”

Judy clapped her hands together. “We would love for you all to come. We’ll have to go shopping to get you all tents and air mattresses and such, though. I have sheets and blankets and extra pillows for you. Would you be up for all of that?”

Aunt Debbie took a bite of her French toast. “Sounds good to me. We drove so we can take everything home with us without any issues. It’s not like we have to worry about flying home with it.”

Bob clapped his hands one time. “Then, it’s set. We’re all going camping together in a couple days. Let’s get to shopping and planning. I’m excited.”
