Chapter 13

CANNON

After a sleepless night, Cannon packed a bag. Couple changes of clothing and his bathroom necessities. Everything else could stay.

Not having showed up to his room till after five a.m., Cannon headed down to the office to speak with Tank.

Had he even eaten last night? By the pain in his gut, he would guess that was a no. He could hear his mom's stern voice in his head that he needed to take care of himself.

Which reminded him that because his phone was off none of his alarms chimed. It was his own fault.

Cannon was too in his head and all over the place- mentally and physically, to even care.

Thankfully, Tank was already in his office before the shop opened. It was hit or miss if it was Tank or Brick. Cannon would have spoken to Brick, however he surmised it would have been a more difficult conversation.

Oh, no, wait, Brick was there too.

He paused at the doorway, hesitant to go in, when he was spotted and clear relief washed over Tank's face.

"Get in here, Cannon. You've had everyone worried sick."

Cannon squinted his eyes. "Huh?"

Brick was busy on his phone, Cannon had noticed, when Tank spoke again. "Turn on your phone, son."

He had no reason not to, and did as directed.

While his phone booted up, he pocketed it and took off his cut. He tried to hand it to Tank, who shook his head.

"Give me one good reason to accept that," Tank crossed his arms, leaning back in his chair.

Dropping his arm to his side, he was at a loss for words. Then his phone started ringing and chiming constantly. Brick chuckled and Tank smirked.

It was probably just his mom and dad. So he ignored it once again.

"Aren't you going to check your phone?" Brick asked.

Cannon shook his head no. "I need to leave. It's best if I do. Do you have any contacts away from here that would be willing to help me out?"

Tank looked at Brick, who nodded. What was going on?

"Why do you think you should leave? You've been doing well here at the shop."

Cannon snorted, then promptly cleared his throat. "That's all I do. Work here at the shop. I'm not even a full member of the club, so what's it matter if I turn in my cut or not. No one asks me for help or assistance of any kind. I'm not exactly welcomed at the lodge, and when I tried Saturday, I had a nervous breakdown. I'm not good for anyone here. Either give me a referral, or I'll try on my own."

"That how you really feel?"

Cannon nearly jumped out of his skin when Shadow's voice sounded behind him. Scratch that, he did jump, and nearly knocked Brick and the second chair over as well in his endeavor to put as much space between him and Shadow as possible.

Fucking hell, his heart raced, beating right out of his chest. He tried to keep his cool, but it was no use.

His cut lay on the ground by the door where he had dropped it in his haste to run away.
