Hiccups
The professional journal Lancet published an article on a patient suffering from a fungal infection of the esophagus and who, following a surgical intervention, developed persistent hiccups (Gilson and Busalacchi 1998). The patient followed various medical treatments (chlorpromazine, nifedipine, valproic acid), which either had very little effective or were not effective. Acupuncture on the sixth and ninth day after the appearance of the hiccups caused them to disappear for an hour only. On the eighth day, the patient smoked a cannabis cigarette for the first time in his life, and the hiccups disappeared until the next day. On the tenth day, the patient repeated his experiment, and the hiccups immediately stopped and have never returned.
