According to Brahmanism, the period of the great flood probably corresponds to the 3rd brief Pralaya (dissolution) of the Maha-Yuga and its preparation to exit the previous phase of Dwapara-Yuga and enter our contemporary Kali-Yuga which coincides with the Iron Race.
