Chapter Ten

I woke in the morning to bare flesh under my fingers. Still half asleep, I traced across strong chest muscles and down over ribs covered in smooth, warm skin. That’s when I realized what I was doing and my eyes flashed open.

“Good morning to you, too,” Jackson said, stretching under my hand. He’d transformed back into human at some point in the night and was now lying naked atop the covers of the bed, his back still to me. During the night, I must have turned over and slung my arm over him.

My hand was still on his hip and I snatched it away before he could get the wrong idea. Or maybe it was already too late, judging by his member standing at attention. I pulled the blanket up over my head.

“Can you please put some clothes on?”

“If you’re going to hang out with wolves, you’re going to have to get used to nudity,” he said, tugging the blanket back down. “We spend a lot of time sans clothing.”

“I didn’t need to know that.”

“What exactly do you think is going to happen when you are mated with Kip? You’ll never see another wolf?”

“No, but I don’t think naked guys walking around the house is going to be a thing, is it?”

“Probably.” He got up, not bothering to cover himself and stretched.

“Oh my god, put that thing away. Also, how did you manage to sleep in here the whole night? I thought I was supposed to sleep alone?”

“I got lonely.” He shrugged. “I guess you’re happy to let wolves into your bed, just not humans.”

“That’s kinda speciest of you,” Brad called from the other room. “I object!”

“I was asleep!” I protested.

“Sure.” Jackson headed to the bathroom. “Dibs on the shower.”

“This isn’t even your room!”

He didn’t seem to care and went ahead and showered in Brad’s bathroom, then wandered off to his own room, thankfully with a towel wrapped around his waist.

“Your mate is kind of a prude, man,” he told Kip on his way out.

“She’ll get used to it,” Kip said, coming into the room. “Hey, good morning.”

“Good morning. Are you telling me that being mates with an alpha means I have to look at naked men all the time?”

“You liked it!” Jackson hollered from his room.

“It’s pretty normal for us,” Kip shrugged. “We only have clothes on now because you’re here.”

“Great.”

Kip sat down on the end of the bed. “How are you doing with Alex being so thrilled about wolfing out?”

“I’m glad.” I sat up in bed and took out the braid, running my fingers through my still damp hair. “I thought he would be so upset and he was happy about it, so that’s the better outcome, I think.”

“Good, I was hoping you’d see it that way. Being a wolf is pretty great.”

“Really?” I raised an eyebrow. “I don’t know that I’d want to be one. Wait, will I have to turn in order to be your mate?”

“It would be normal, but not required. Remember, this hasn’t happened before, with a wolf discovering their mate in a human.
