We turned to see Pumpkin Patterson and Curly Topp.

“Captain P, at your service,” said Pumpkin. “The ‘P’ is for Pumpkin, of course,” he said.

“The looks on your faces!” Pumpkin said with delight. “Counting out your little steps.”

Curly Topp laughed loudly.

“You left the map in the bottle?” said Stace.

“Yep,” Pumpkin said. “I left it right outside your hut.”

“But the map looks so real,” said Benji.

“I took it off a classroom wall,” said Pumpkin. “The kids in Year 4 had to do ‘history maps’ of Saltspray. They drew the rocks and trees and stuff. All we did was draw in little footsteps.”
