The Bite
I wondered whoâd burned him and what theyâd done but I didnât ask. I didnât think heâd tell me. It felt too personal. âWill you take me back to Jennaâs?â
I had some serious thinking to do. I also needed to know what kind of risk Iâd be taking going to Court of Sea. Callen and Sadira would know. I didnât trust Falco to tell me the truth. Heâd probably make it seem easier than it would be. But then again, if I brought it up to Callen, he might try to stop me from making a bargain. In fact, I knew he would. Not letting me face Elettra was proof of that. And what if Falco were the only way to get my memories back.
âI thought we could hang out at my place.â
For whatever reason, a cold sweat started all over my body. I glanced at the A/C. It was on low. Why am I chilly suddenly? It was hotter than Satanâs balls outside and itâs not as if the air was on full blast in here. I folded my arms as goosebumps erupted. âI think it best if I go back to Jennaâs.â I couldnât think straight with him so close.
He made a U-turn and nodded. âAlright.â
My teeth chattered as I started shivering. How could I be so cold when my face felt hotter than fire. What the heck is wrong with me?
Falcoâs hand brushed over the air. âAre you cold?â
âYeah.â I rubbed my arms and my skin became hypersensitive. Even my clothes started to get scratchy and uncomfortable.
With a wary look, Falco drove into a gas station. âItâs not cold. Are you feeling ill?â He parked off to the side of the building.
I shrugged. Iâd never been ill before.
With the back of his hand, he touched my cheek, then my forehead. âShit, youâre burning up.â His eyes dropped to my arm and he grabbed it. âThe bite.â
The wound that was red before was now swollen and leaked puss. âItâs infected. I need antibiotics. Take me...â I may not be a nurse but Iâd been around the hospital long enough. I needed to go there. My tongue grew heavy and I lost track of what I was going to say. Wait, I had my magical phoenix. âJett,â I mumbled. My head spun and pounded so much I couldnât think.
Falco peeled out of the parking lot. My head tilted back and forth with each turn. My eyes were so heavy. I was so tired and cold but hot too. I rested my head against the doorframe.
âAllora, donât go to sleep,â Falco commanded. âStay awake. Iâm getting help.â
I tried to nod but couldnât. I was too tired.
âAllora.â His voice grew sharper. âWake up!â
I wanted to listen but my eyes closed and I couldnât open them again.
