Age twenty four

“Fuck! Fuck!”

I hit my gloved hand over and over at the wall in front of me. The rage at Mum and Dad for hiding their own daughter, whom they called a fucking mistake, was overwhelming.

“Sir, you will injure your hand if—”

“Shut up!” I roar, wanting to punch the living shit out of my useless excuse of an assistant. He is a skinny little kid whom I took on without thinking much about it. His hesitant gaze wandering all over this dirty place shows he isn’t made for this world.

But the news he came bearing as I waited for my biggest fight yet has ruined everything. I was starting to enjoy these fights, maybe even thinking of a career in MMA and leaving this part of me behind; but fuck if my whole life didn’t just come collapsing down.

“Would you like me to organise a meeting with them?”

I turn around so fast, he blinks and stumbles back.

“A fucking meeting to discuss my sister with the parents who gave her up? What do you think this is, kid? A happy little family with parents that will happily accept what I have to say?”

He opens his mouth.

I shoot my hand out and grab at his jaw. “Don’t open that mouth. Fuck off.”

As soon as I release him, he scrambles away, looking back at me once more before running away.

I knew he wasn’t going to last.

I drop my head back, gazing up at the dark sky of London. Car horns and the shouts and screams of people mingling about outside the underground stadium fill my ears, but I can’t focus on any of it nor the fight waiting to happen in just under ten minutes.

Possibly the last fight of my life.

My phone rings in my shorts pocket. I pick it up instantly.

“Remo? Where are you? You need to show up at tomorrow’s board meeting,” says Ivano Cainn, my father and the man who has sunk so low that he disowned his own daughter.

I hang up the phone straight away, knowing the profanities that will come out of my mouth if I speak to him.

Ivano and Camilla Cainn, my parents, have always been power hungry, but I didn’t think that was a problem until now.

Running a frustrated hand through my hair, I groan. I may not know what to do, but one thing I do know, I won’t abandon my sister like they did. I didn’t even know she existed. How could they so easily keep her away?

A younger sister who will look up at me, calling me her brother. I can imagine her smiling up at me, asking me to pick her up, asking me to buy her things, and I would shower with all my affection.

But they ruined it.

“Stressed?” My head snaps to the side at an unfamiliar voice, only to be greeted by a guy as tall as me. A hood covers his face, and the only thing visible is his deep green eyes.

“Fuck off.” I turn away from him, not wanting to talk.
