Iggy said she loved pizza so I went all out for our second date. Well, maybe not date, but dinner. My wolf and I are calling it a date, though.

I set the pasta and garlic bread on the table next to the homemade pizza. It took me three tries to get the dough right, but I’m pleased with how it came out this time. I just hope that my mate likes it too.

My wolf snaps at me. He’s hungry for something more than food. The mating heat is pressing down on us already, and I know this is my chance to really win Iggy over. I’m not sure that my wolf and I can survive until next month to claim her.

The front door opens, and I take a deep breath, trying to calm my wolf and me down as I go to greet my girl.

“It smells so good in here,” she says as she shrugs out of her jacket.

“I cooked us dinner,” I tell her, and she smiles.

“Bo and Liam did the same for Rue. It must be in the air or something because they sure were in a hurry for me to leave,” she says with a laugh, and I swallow hard.

I’m going to have to tell her more about shifters and the mating moon, and I’m not sure how she’s going to take it.

She’s wearing a tight pair of yoga pants and a loose-fitting sweater that hangs off one shoulder, exposing my bite mark. My eyes zero in on the length of her neck that is now exposed, and I wonder if I should say I’m not feeling well and go lay down. Or more like barricade myself in my bedroom. No way can I make it through tonight with her looking like that. Especially if she rejects me.

Coward, my wolf snarls, and I sigh.

“Did you want to go out to dinner instead?” I croak.

“What? No, it smells really good, and I’m starving. Wait, are you feeling alright?” She asks, stepping closer to me with a look of concern on her face.

This is my chance. Say no and leave or tell her all about the mating heat.

“You don’t look so well,” she says, stepping closer to me and resting her hand on my forehead. “You feel really hot. Why don’t you go lay down?”

“No, I’m fine.”

“You don’t look fine,” she says, looking skeptical.

“It’s not an illness. It’s the mating heat.”

“That what?” She asks, and I take her hand, leading her into the kitchen.

“Let’s eat. I’ll tell you about it over dinner.”

“Alright,” she says, and I hurry to pull out her chair.

I take the one next to her and try to discreetly wipe the sweat from my brow as I start to fill her plate with food.

“Are you sure that you’re okay?” She asks, eyeing me carefully.

“I’m sure. It’s the full moon tonight,” I start. “And that means that every mated shifter is going to feel the mating heat.”

“What’s that?”

“It’s… it’s pure desire.”

Her fork clatters to her plate, and she stares at me with wide eyes.
