Lillian needed a plan. She already figured on asking if Jafria could come over again. She just had to talk to a couple of people inside the castle to help her out. To think like the enemy, she had to know the enemy—and there were only two people she could think of who might know a lot about the Rogues. Mostly because they had been Drod citizens themselves. But between the two, there was only one she thought worth talking to. And perhaps the only one who would have the answer to who sent the letter.

“Hey, Seth.”

“Oh, hey, Lil’. I didn’t hear you come up.” Seth was tinkering in the workshop.

“What are you working on?”

“Oh, this?” He started to cover it up. “This is something you can’t see. It’s a surprise Grayson’s got me working on for the Dawning Festival.”

“If we still have one.”

“Your father still thinking about cancelling it, huh?”

“Yeah.”

“Man, that’s a tough call. I’d understand, though. He’s always got the citizens in his best interest. Especially ones he’s related to.”

“Yeah, I know.”

“How much longer are you grounded for?”

“Not sure. It was a month, but he’s extended it indefinitely.” Because Zoldaine may be back and a prisoner died in interrogation is what she wanted to say but knew better. “Maybe until all this is over, if he has his way.”

“Still looking for that Zands guy?”

“Yep.”

“Well, may the Fae’s luck shine upon us all then, and he’ll pop up. It would be a shame to cancel the festival,” said Seth.

“To be honest, that’s kind of what I came to talk to you about.” She pulled out the letter. “That and this. Is there anyone else around?”

“Not that I know of. What’s going on, Lil’?”

“I was hoping you could tell me. Who gave you this?”

“I have no idea. It was lying here on my workbench this morning. I caught Andrew coming back in from getting thackleberries for you and gave it to him to take back. It doesn’t say who it’s from?”

“Nope, that’s why I came to ask you.”

“I wish I could be more help. What did it say?”

Tell no one.

Lillian had to think fast. “Um, it was just something about the festival. A personal request, but they didn’t leave their name so…”

“Huh, that’s weird. Well, maybe they’ll leave another note with a ‘P.
