The Glacial River Trail has a fascinating prehistoric and historic Native American heritage. There are interesting museums in the pleasant town of Fort Atkinson.

Precautions: Crossings at town roads require caution. One stretch is on a lightly traveled town road. Indian Mounds Park is reached via a town road. Currently there are no services available along the route.
Food and facilities: There is water and a small bench and shelter at the Farmco Lane parking area. There are a number of fast-food restaurants and convenience stores along Business Wisconsin Highway 26 and U.S. Highway 12 in Fort Atkinson. The Cafe Carpe in the downtown area is a unique dining spot that often features entertainment by folk musicians. The Fireside on Business WI 26 South is a popular dinner theater with professionally produced musicals. Jones Park in Fort Atkinson offers restroom.
Seasons: Open year-round
Access and parking: From US 12 in downtown Fort Atkinson just north of the river, take North Water Street west 1 block to the municipal building parking lot. The trailhead is at the edge of the lot. If you want to bypass Fort Atkinson and begin at the former trailhead, a second lot is located just south of town. From US 12 in Fort Atkinson, take Janesville Avenue (Business WI 26 South) southwest for 2.0 miles to Farmco Lane and turn right (west). A brown and white sign identifies Farmco Lane as the road to the Glacial River Trail. Go 0.2 mile to the parking area on the right (north).
